Guantánamo (Solvision) ballet students from several countries compete from Tuesday at the XIII International Competition for young, to be held in Havana scenarios. The event until next April 11 will be held at the National and American Theatres, the latter reserved for the junior category.
According to the rules of competition, participants must show control and technical mastery of movements incorporated into the choreography and the interpretation of the musical performance.
The competition consists of four categories: Children, designed for children 12 and 13 years old; Youth, for 13 and 14; Intermedia, 15 and 16 and Advanced, 17-19 years.
The contestants showcase their skills in fragments of works of traditional classical repertoire as Corsair, Don Quixote, Giselle, Flames of Paris, Diana and Actaeon, Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Paquita, La Bayadere and Flower Festival in Genzano, among other pieces engendered in the nineteenth century.
Ballet Masters Mexico, Venezuela, Brazil, USA and art critics make up the jury on behalf of Cuba have the director of the National Ballet School, Ramona de Saa, and the first dancer of the National Ballet Viengsay Valdes.
The technical implementation, the artistic performance, musicality and physical proportions are some of the parameters that take into account the court during the assessment by sex and categories.
The contest will be the culminating event of the XXI International Meeting of Schools for teaching ballet, a unique event of its kind in the world that develops in the capital since last March 28 with the participation of students and teachers from 15 countries.
