There is a xerofilian vegetation in the southern part of the region, a particular trait of arid places. To the northern region prevails a forest vegetation.
In San Antonio del Sur there is located the Cuban semi-desert area, specifically in Baitiquirí, the most arid region in Cuba, a very poor land.
