This was reiterated by the Party´s provincial and municipal special sessions carried out in Guantanamo and Manuel Tames, presided over by Jose Ramón Machado Ventura, Politburo member and first vice president of the Councils of State and Ministers, and Luis Antonio Torres Iribar, first secretary of the Communist Party in the eastern region.
Machado explained the considerations taken into account in the project to be submitted to deputies at the National Assembly´s next ordinary session.
With these adjustments the province wins and so the municipalities themselves, he said, insisting on rationality that should govern what we do today.
Guantánamo municipality has a very large territorial extension, with a high concentration of population in the provincial capital, making difficult the attention to the residents located in the rest of the municipality.
Graciel Rodriguez, president of the Institute of Physical Planning, offered the key elements assessed by the Commission studying for several years the proposed modifications. Among them, he mentioned the need to strengthen the municipality of Manuel Tames with Guantanamo and Yateras adjoining areas. In turn, Manuel Tames yields a small portion of its territory to Guantánamo.
The People's Power provincial and municipal assemblies in Guantanamo and Manuel Tames held extraordinary sessions, also attended by Jaime Crombet, vice president of the National Assembly and Luis Fernando Navarro, president of the Government in Guantánamo.
